HVAC Mechanic (1501 K Street)

Job Description:

General Purpose of Job/Summary:

The HVAC Mechanic is responsible for independently performing skilled task in troubleshooting, operation, replacement, repair, and maintenance of commercial air conditioning and heating systems, water treatment, controls, and all other building mechanical and electrical systems. Work involves the lifting of heavy mechanical equipment and apparatus and may be performed in areas of extreme heat and cold.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

n         Perform operation, replacement, repair, and maintenance of all mechanical air conditioning and heating systems, air handling units, pumps, heat exchangers, hot/cold water lines, expansion joints, plumbing, and electric motors.

 

n         Rebuild pumps, install mechanical seals, and pump alignment using proper tools as necessary.

 

n         Troubleshoot and make necessary repairs to refrigeration systems.

 

n         Gas and arc weld, as necessary, to do repairs and fabrication.

 

n         Troubleshoot and repair electric, electronic, and pneumatic controls systems.

 

n         Possess adequate sight, hearing and speaking capabilities to maintain a safe working condition and be able to distinguish wire colors and component color codes.

 

n         Routine preventive maintenance duties as found in these specifications to include but limited to filter changes, lubrication, control and performance check using Workspeed, etc.

 

n         Evacuate refrigeration systems, perform refrigeration leak test, recover refrigerant and replace refrigerant compressor following the most recent state and federal regulatory requirements for service and repair practices of refrigeration systems and components.

 

n         Repair and maintenance on centrifugal, screws, reciprocal and open drive chiller systems and refrigeration systems to include various sizes of rooftop package units, split systems, air handlers, computer room systems, low pressure steam systems, hot water and chilled water systems, process chilled water systems, pneumatic, mechanical and electronic systems.

 

n         Maintain a safe and accident free workplace and exercise common sense and good judgment when performing duties.

 

n         Respond to emergency situations e.g., flooding, snow removal, etc.

 

n         Attend weekly tool box meetings and participate accordingly.

 

n         Comply with and enforce Consolidated’s policy and procedures manual and safety guidelines.

 

Education/Experience:

 

High School graduate or equivalent with training in HVAC.

 

Minimum of five years experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.

 

 

Other Skills/Requirements:

 

n         Familiarity with operation of building automation systems.

 

n         Ability to read blue prints, pneumatic mechanical and/or electric control drawings.

 

n         Possess or capable of possessing a Journeyman HVACR license from the State of Maryland Department of Licensing and Regulations within 60 days of Notice to Proceed.

 

n         Possess an EPA approved Universal certification.

 

n         Must be willing to work overtime when needed and be willing to take the on call assignment.

 

n         Ability to read, comprehend, and execute written and oral instructions and perform basic arithmetic calculations.

n         Should be self-directed and motivated, demonstrate quick turnaround, follow through and follow up.

n         Must possess positive interpersonal skills and be able to communicate well and in a positive manner to customers, employees, visitors, and vendors at all times.

 

n         The ability to work well under pressure.
