UNION Maintenance Helper (1225 S. Clark Street)
Job Description:
General Purpose of Job/Summary:
The Maintenance Helper is at the entry-level position. The Maintenance Helper performs various general building maintenance functions in support of a variety of skilled and semi-skilled craft trades to support mechanical and electrical heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning machinery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist Engineers and Maintenance Mechanics in the maintenance and operation of the property.
Assists maintenance mechanic in performing building repairs and preventive maintenance on various types of HVAC equipment.
Perform light carpentry, minor repairs, re-lamping and other duties under the supervision of an Engineer or Maintenance Mechanic.
Assists in snow removal, move and stock parts and materials, clean and paint mechanical spaces and equipment.
Performs other duties as may be assigned.
Education/Experience:
A high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is preferred.
Minimum one-year experience in general building trades. Experience desirable but not required.
Other Skills/Requirements:
Basic knowledge of hand and small power tools, familiarity with machinery and elementary electricity is desirable.
Be able to demonstrate a mechanical aptitude satisfactory to the Company.
Must be able to lift/move heavy objects, climb vertical ladders and work at heights.
Must have good verbal communication skills.

Ability to keep processes moving forward and take initiative as appropriate.
Should be self-directed and motivated, demonstrate quick turnaround, follow through and follow up.

The ability to work well under pressure.
